England and Norway face off in a blockbuster FIFA 2026 World Cup quarter-final on Saturday, with the spotlight on Harry Kane and Erling Haaland as two of football’s deadliest strikers battle for a place in the semi-finals.

The winner at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium will book a last-four clash against either defending champions Argentina or Switzerland.

Kane has once again led England’s charge, inspiring the Three Lions to a dramatic 3-2 Round of 16 victory over Mexico at the iconic Estadio Azteca despite Thomas Tuchel’s side playing with 10 men for part of the contest.

The Bayern Munich captain has scored six goals at the tournament and remains central to England’s hopes of ending their long wait for World Cup glory.

Haaland, meanwhile, has been in devastating form for Norway, scoring seven goals to fire his country to a historic first World Cup quarter-final. The Manchester City striker also struck twice in Norway’s stunning 2-1 victory over Brazil in the Round of 16.

Norway’s remarkable run has been matched by the passion of their travelling supporters, whose Viking rowing celebration has become one of the tournament’s defining fan moments.

“Every game has been the most important in Norwegian football history, especially in the knockout rounds, so this is the third time it is the most important game,” Norway coach Ståle Solbakken said.

Kane hails Haaland

Ahead of their highly anticipated duel, Kane described Haaland as “a beast” but insisted the pair have different styles of play.

“I see myself as a different player, although I score the same goals,” the England captain said.

“I like to touch the ball a little bit more and be involved in the build-up, but I can also play as an out-and-out number nine.

“I don’t think it’s one to compare ourselves. I respect him a lot as a player and as a professional.”

England boosted before quarter-finals

England received a timely fitness boost with Declan Rice, Marc Guéhi and Reece James all returning to training after recovering from illness and injury.

Coach Thomas Tuchel welcomed the trio’s return but warned his players that their job is far from complete.

“That is the best news,” Tuchel said.

“We took a big step in our last match, but it was only a step.

“The next step is to win a quarter-final. The important thing is to look up at what is ahead of us.”
