Jose Mourinho has agreed to return to Real Madrid as head coach on a two-year deal, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The move has been anticipated for several weeks, with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez reportedly identifying Mourinho as his preferred choice to restore stability at the club following a turbulent and trophyless campaign.

Mourinho is expected to replace Alvaro Arbeloa at the end of the season, with Spanish outlet Marca claiming the Portuguese manager’s return to the Santiago Bernabeu is now “just a matter of time”.
Real Madrid have opted to bring Mourinho back 13 years after his first spell in charge, believing his experience and strong personality can help restore order in a dressing room that has faced growing off-field tensions in recent months.
Marca described the 63-year-old as “the Chosen One” once again, adding that Perez views Mourinho as the only candidate capable of rebuilding unity within the squad.
Romano reported that personal terms on a two-year contract have already been verbally agreed to, with final formalities expected to be completed this week.
An official announcement is expected after Real Madrid’s final game of the season against Athletic Club on Sunday, with Mourinho set to be unveiled in Madrid next week. The proposed deal also includes the option of an additional year.
Arbeloa has overseen the team on an interim basis since the departure of Xabi Alonso in January, just seven months into his tenure.
Since leaving Real Madrid in 2013, Mourinho has managed Chelsea FC, Manchester United FC, Tottenham Hotspur FC, AS Roma, Fenerbahce SK and SL Benfica.
