IHS Towers wins Remita Corporate Champions Cup

The third edition of Remita Corporate Champions Cup, popularly known as RC3, recently came to a thrilling end as foremost telecommunications service provider, IHS emerged as winners, over online marketplace VConnect and six other corporate brands that partook in the corporate tournament.

Regarded as the pinnacle of all corporate games in Nigeria, the other organisations that participated in the competition are First Bank, UBA, 9Mobile, Leadway Assurance, FrieslandCampina, and Nestle. The participating teams were winners and runners-up of various industry games like Bankers Games, Insurance Games, FMCG Games, and Telecoms Games. RC3 held from the weekend of August 12 through to August 27 at the Sports Pavilion of Yaba College of Technology (YabaTech).

“More than all other editions, RC3 this year served as an opportunity to bring Remita closer to fellow players in Nigeria’s business space as well as numerous individual customers, in a relaxed, non-work environment,” said Deremi Atanda, Executive Director, SystemSpecs.

SystemSpecs, Nigeria’s leading financial technology firm and sponsors of RC3, had in early August this year launched Remita Mobile App to help individuals and businesses to easily access their balances and operate their accounts across all banks either directly or via their cards and also settle various bills, request money, pay for others, split payments, manage their expenses, and much more.

During the tournament, a first-time user of Remita App, Adeolu Olufemi, a student of YabaTech said, “Since I downloaded Remita on my phone, I have been able to use it to request money from my parents and some friends. I look forward to using it to pay my school fees, as I know some of my colleagues are already doing.”

Speaking about the tournament, former goalkeeper of the Super Eagles of Nigeria and tournament ambassador, Peter Rufai noted that the competition lived up to his expectations. The goalie who once again during the tourney wore his gloves to stop penalty kicks by key executives of participating teams, added that “the exciting atmosphere during the entire competition climaxed at the finals and it was a delight to see so much interest in football by these corporate brands.”

Commenting on behalf of his team, Alex Chinedu, captain of the IHS team, said: “Upon our entry into the tournament, we were determined to return with the coveted trophy. I am delighted that, after the team committed so much effort, we have defeated the best teams in Nigeria’s corporate space and have been crowned champions.”

In the similarly pulsating third-place fixture, Leadway defeated Nestle by three goals to two to win bronze while the title sponsor’s team, better known as Remita Eagles, played two novelty matches against the football teams of StanbicIBTC and Ecobank.

Played on a knock-out basis, Remita Corporate Champions Cup serves as an ideal precursor to prepare athletes ahead of their individual industry games and encourage inter-industry networking and bonding.
