Iheanacho gets new manager as Celtic appoint Wilfried Nancy

Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho is set to play under a new manager at Celtic after the Scottish club announced the appointment of Frenchman Wilfried Nancy.

The 48-year-old joins the Scottish champions after a successful spell as head coach of Major League Soccer club Columbus Crew since 2022. He replaces interim boss Martin O’Neill.

Nancy’s first game in charge will be the crucial top-of-the-table Scottish Premiership meeting with Hearts at Celtic Park on Sunday.

This will be followed by the Europa League visit of Roma and the League Cup final with St Mirren the following week.

“I can’t wait to get going and become part of such a brilliant institution,” Nancy said.

“Celtic is one of the world’s proper football clubs—real atmosphere, heart and soul, high standards and big demands. I know the history, I know the values, and I know what is expected of me.”

Celtic confirmed the former MLS Cup–winning coach’s arrival on Wednesday.

Last month, when asked about links to the Celtic job, Nancy declined to comment, insisting, “I’m not here to talk about myself. I’m here to talk about the team… I have nothing to say about any rumours.”

Iheanacho, who joined Celtic earlier this season, will now aim to impress under the incoming manager as the club continues its push on multiple fronts.
