David Haye has tipped Anthony Joshua to win the IBF world heavyweight title against Charles Martin. Joshua fights Martin at the O2 Arena on Saturday April 9 looking to maintain his perfect record which currently stands at 15 knockouts from 15 bouts.
And when asked where he sees himself going after that bout, Joshua was at the top of his list.
“If Joshua wins his fight against Charles Martin, that’s a huge fight,” Haye said.
“I believe Anthony Joshua and Charles Martin is a very tough fight. But I definitely feel Anthony Joshua is going to win that one.
“He’s on a run of 15 knockouts in 15 fights and I feel he is a superior athlete. It will be a great fight – there is a lot of good things happening in the heavyweight division and I’m excited to be a part of it.”
Joshua was rocked in his last fight against Dillian Whyte before recovering to floor his opponent, but Haye believes the bout gave the Olympian something to think about.
“I don’t think there has ever been a heavyweight in history that hasn’t been out on his feet or knocked down at some stage,” he added.
“One of the greatest heavyweights Lennox Lewis was knocked out twice by guys who had rights had no business knocking him out.
“Mike Tyson, Muhammad Ali, Frazier, Foreman, everybody. Big, big guys throwing big bombs – you get hurt from time to time. So I didn’t take too much from that.
“But the fact that the guy was able to land those shots at wills, it appeared at some points, is the only thing that I’d say he needs to look out for.
“Someone like me – I punch a lot harder than that guy did and I punch a lot faster. I don’t hit you with one shot at a time, I hit you with one shot then six will hit you within a second. They are the ones that knock people out.”
