Manchester United staged a late comeback to salvage a 2-2 draw against Everton at Goodison Park in a Premier League fixture on Saturday.

United appeared destined for a ninth defeat in 13 Premier League matches after first-half goals from Beto and Abdoulaye Doucoure gave the Toffees a commanding 2-0 lead inside 33 minutes.

Ruben Amorim‘s United side struggled to create chances, failing to register a shot on target until Bruno Fernandes’ 72nd free-kick sparked a fightback. Manuel Ugarte then struck the equaliser eight minutes later to rescue a point for the visitors.

The drama did not end there, as Everton were awarded a penalty deep into stoppage time. However, after a VAR review, referee Andy Madley overturned his initial decision, much to the frustration of the home side.

The draw sees Everton climb to 12th in the Premier League standings, while United remain 15th as their struggles continue.

Since David Moyes’ return for a second spell as Everton boss, the Toffees have taken 14 points from a possible 18, ensuring their Premier League survival after a turbulent season.

Amorim, meanwhile, admitted before the match that Moyes—who was dismissed by United in 2014 after less than a season—has done a better job at stabilizing his side.

Everton were determined to make the most of one of their final matches at Goodison Park before moving to a new 53,000-seat stadium next season, dominating much of the game against a United team lacking confidence.

However, the home side were left bitterly disappointed after letting their lead slip, with their frustration compounded by the overturned penalty decision following an apparent foul by Harry Maguire on former United winger Ashley Young in the dying moments.
