Super Eagles technical director, Augustine Eguavoen, has reportedly been appointed Super Eagles interim coach following the departure of Portuguese tactician Jose Peseiro.
Peseiro resigned from his role as the head coach of the Super Eagles after guiding the three-time African champions to the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The 63-year-old’s contract with the Nigeria Football Federation ended on Thursday, February 28, 2024, and there have been reports that NFF was negotiating a new contract with the former Venezuela manager, but he opted to quit.
The Portuguese coach confirmed his exit in a post on his X( formerly Twitter) account @JosePeseiro on Friday, March 1, 2024, said it was an honour to coach the Super Eagles and thanked the former NFF president for hiring him.
According to SoccernetNg, Eguaveon, a 58-year-old former Super Eagles coach will lead the three-time African champions on a temporary contract till the Nigeria Football Federation appoints a permanent new for the team.
Eguavoen was also appointed Super Eagles interim manager for the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon following Gernot Rohr’s departure and managed to guide Nigeria to the Round of 16 before being knocked out by Tunisia.
The former Nigeria defender was the team’s technical director when Nigeria won a silver medal at the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast.
