Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk will collide on May 18 for the undisputed World Heavyweight Championship title and the winner will fight Anthony Joshua next.
Former opponent of Fury and Usyk, Derek Chisora, believes Joshua holds the upper hand against either adversary.
Speaking to Crypto Casino LTD, Chisora emphasized Joshua’s transformation under the tutelage of Ben Davison, who assumed the role of Joshua’s trainer last year.
“I’m backing AJ over Fury any day if the bout materializes,” asserted Chisora. “As a friend and former amateur club mate, I have faith in his power to overpower Fury. With ferociousness reserved for such a showdown, and considering Ben Davison’s intimate knowledge of Tyson Fury, I believe AJ emerges victorious.”
Chisora also favoured Joshua in a prospective clash against Usyk, notwithstanding AJ’s consecutive losses to the Ukrainian in 2021 and 2022. Nonetheless, Chisora commended Usyk for his accomplishments.
“Under Ben Davison’s guidance, AJ would dominate Usyk, potentially ending the contest within six rounds,” Chisora said.
“While Usyk displayed prowess against Otto Wallin last December, Joshua’s blend of power punches and strategic body shots could prove overwhelming.”
Acknowledging Usyk’s remarkable journey from cruiserweight dominance to asserting his presence in the heavyweight division, Chisora hailed him as the current apex predator in the division.
“Presently, Usyk stands as the pinnacle of the heavyweight landscape,” Chisora conceded.
“With his Olympic gold medal and undisputed cruiserweight reign, he has seamlessly transitioned to heavyweight prominence. Another victory could cement his status as pound-for-pound king and etch his name in Ukrainian history.”
