Chelsea have dismissed head coach Liam Rosenior just 107 days into his tenure following a poor run of results.

During his brief spell, Chelsea endured five consecutive Premier League matches without scoring for the first time since 1912. Rosenior, who replaced Enzo Maresca in January, oversaw seven defeats in his last eight matches, leading to his departure after only four months.

Despite signing a five-and-a-half-year contract, Rosenior managed just 11 wins from 23 games across all competitions.

His final match in charge was Tuesday’s 3-0 defeat at Brighton, after which he described the performance as “indefensible” and “unacceptable” amid growing unrest from supporters.

The loss left Chelsea seventh in the league standings, significantly denting their hopes of securing Champions League qualification.

In a statement, the club said: “Liam has always conducted himself with the highest integrity and professionalism following his appointment midway through the season.

“This has not been a decision the club has taken lightly; however, recent results and performances have fallen below the necessary standards with still so much more to play for this season.”

Calum McFarlane will take interim charge for Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final against Leeds United at Wembley and is expected to remain in the role until the end of the season.
