Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit has urged the Gunners to consider the signing of Nigerian and Napoli striker Victor Osimhen in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Petit believes that Osimhen would be a significant addition to Mikel Arteta’s squad and is urging Arsenal to act swiftly before Chelsea secures the Nigerian international.
Osimhen has a release clause estimated at around €130 million ( (£111.2m) and is rumoured to leave Napoli this summer following interest from top European clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), Manchester United, and Chelsea.
Petit is confident that signing Osimhen could help Arsenal compete and win the Premier League title next season.
“I think Arsenal need a 30-goal striker to finally win the Premier League, and that man could be Victor Osimhen, who has been amazing with Lille and then Napoli,” Petit said Speaking on BoyleSports.
“His dream is to come to England, and he could be brilliant here. He’s physically so strong and is an out-and-out number nine, so he’d be my first choice.”
Since moving to Serie A in 2020 from Lille, the 25-year-old Nigeria international has scored 76 goals in 132 games for Parthenopeans, including 31 strikes in the 2022/23 campaign that helped the Gli Azzurri win their first Serie A title in over three decades.
The Super Eagles striker has also netted a total of 17 goals and four assists in 31 appearances for last season’s Serie A champions in the 2023/24 campaign.
