Antoine Semenyo scored a stunning second-half winner as Manchester City defeated Chelsea 1-0 to win the FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium on Saturday.
The decisive moment came in the 72nd minute when Erling Haaland delivered a low cross into the box and Semenyo, while holding off Levi Colwill, produced an exquisite right-footed flick into the far corner beyond Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez.
It was the winger’s 10th goal for City since his £64 million move from AFC Bournemouth in January, continuing an impressive rise under manager Pep Guardiola.
The victory earned Manchester City £2.12 million ($2.8 million) in prize money, while Chelsea received £1.06 million ($1.4 million) as runners-up.
City captain Bernardo Silva, who is set to leave the club at the end of the season, expressed his delight at adding another trophy to his collection.
“Very special. I am really happy. Everything about my journey here at Man City was fantastic,” Silva told the BBC.
“Hopefully, we can still have a small dream that we can fight for the Premier League. Today we are very happy. It is just special for me, being my last season to give them another trophy.”
Manchester City, who also lifted the League Cup in March, remain in the Premier League title race, trailing leaders Arsenal FC by two points with two matches remaining.
Silva also praised Guardiola’s influence on his career.
“Eighty per cent of my career was with him as my manager. All the things I hoped to achieve were with him,” he said.
Match-winner Semenyo admitted the celebrations would be short-lived as City continue their pursuit of league glory.
