Police nabs ‘Minister of FCT” impersonator defrauding contractors

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested one Mohammed Bello Kolo ‘m’ 27 years, who has been parading himself as the “Honorable Minister of FCT,” Muhammed Bello and defrauding unsuspecting members of the public.

Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, Bala Ciroma while parading the suspect before journalists in Abuja on Wednesday said in the course of impersonating the FCT, Minister, he has so far defrauded his victims of cash worth of Fifty 52 million, allegedly received in installments under the pretense of giving them contracts.

Ciroma said the suspect told Police that he had access to classified information while he served at the Federal Capital Territory Administration during his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) attachment.

He noted that the suspect was arrested following a complaint received on 28th October 2019 by Police operatives attached to the State Intelligence Bureau of the FCT Command.

According to the Police Commissioner, exhibits recovered from the suspect include, “One (1) 206 Peugeot with Reg. No. ABJ 856 SU, One (1) Tricycle with Reg. No. KEF 807 WT, One (1) 55” and 46 inches Samsung Plasma TV, Ione (1) Dining Set, 10000 watts Fireman Generator set, One (1) Washing Machine Hisense Deep Freezer, which the suspect claimed to have purchased from the money he received.

“While efforts are in place to arrest his cohorts, one Simon and one Idris are posing as the Director of Procurement FCTA and PA to the Hon. Minister respectively, the suspect will be arraigned in court upon conclusion of the investigation to serve as a deterrent to others”.

Reacting to the incidence, Abubakar Sani, Special Assistant to the FCT Minister said his Boss does not engage in contract racketeering but is always transparent in all his official duties.

“The office of the FCT Minister, Mallam Musa Bello is open, you can come to his office and he will tell you whether that contract is genuine or not. So we are calling on all Nigerians to beware of fraudsters like this so that they will not be culprits” Sani stated.

Speaking to journalists, the suspect said he was sorry for the incidence, however, he denied that contrary to claims by Police, only N10.5 million was gotten from the deal and he got just one-quarter of funds as a middleman.
