The Church of the Lord (TCL) Worldwide has condemned attacks on churches, educational institutions and the abduction of students across parts of Nigeria, warning that churches and schools must remain safe spaces for worship and learning, respectively.
The church made the call in a communique released at the end of its Annual General Conference held May 4th – 10th, 2026, at its Ecumenical Centre and the international headquarters, Ogere-Remo, Ogun State.
According to the communique, “the conference condemned attacks on educational institutions and the abduction of students in several parts of the country.”
It stressed that schools and places of worship must remain safe spaces for learning and development, and worship, respectively.
The church urged government to “strengthen and deploy security personnel to vulnerable schools, improve emergency response systems, and invest in school infrastructure and surveillance mechanisms.”
Participants at the conference also expressed concern over the state of Nigeria’s education sector, citing inadequate funding and declining standards.
“The conference observed that inadequate funding, poor infrastructure, and declining standards continue to undermine the education sector,” the communique said.
The church of the lord also called for “increased budgetary allocation to education, improved teacher welfare, curriculum reforms, digital literacy programmes, and stronger investments in technical and vocational education to prepare young Nigerians for the future economy.”
The conference also stressed the need for responsible parenting and stronger monitoring of harmful online content to protect children and youth.
The church also identified poor electricity supply as a major challenge to industrialisation and economic growth, stating that “all regions should be allowed to own their power generation company.”
It called for investments in agriculture, technology, manufacturing, creative industries, solid minerals, tourism, and renewable energy as pathways to economic resilience and sustainable development.
