The Kano State government is set to commission a multibillion-naira security complex equipped with state-of-the-art gadgets with the capacity to detect, track, and provide effective curtailment of the rising waves of crimes and banditry in the northern part of the country.

The multibillion-naira project, which was solely funded by the administration of Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and has its control command situated in premises of the Police Headquarters in Bompai Industrial Estate in the metropolis, is expected to be commissioned within the month by the Inspector-General of Police.

Confirming the development to BusinessDay on Tuesday, Salihu Tanko Yakasai, special adviser, Media and Communication to the governor, said that the security investment was one of the landmark steps taken by the state government to secure the state and make it conducive for economic activities.

Yakasai disclosed that the new security complex is linked to several CCTV cameras which are sited in strategic locations within the metropolitan districts of the state, as well as in remote locations to monitor movements of law violators.

“I am glad to reveal that the state government is set to flag off a multibillion-naira security complex built to strengthen the security of the state and its environs. The gadgets are sited at the central command of Nigeria Police in Kano, at Bompai, and is being powered through Solar Control System.

“The complex is also linked to radio equipment attached to Police Patrol Vehicles to help effect arrest of crimes on detection and tracking. In addition to this feature, the complex is also connected to drones that will be used to monitor Falgore Forest which banditries and Kidnapped were trying to convert to their base before the pro-active steps taken by the state governor scared them away.

“As at now the complex is ready and being test run, and the IGP or his representative will soon be visiting the state to commission it, along the 6 Police Stations recently built by the state government,” Yakasai explained.

BusinessDay’s findings indicate that the security complex will also be deployed to monitor traffic offenders as well as activities of Yandabas (street criminal gangs) within the metropolis.
