The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, says it has confiscated 10 container load packs of spoilt bread improver (Edlen dough conditioner) at Onne Port worth about N39.5 million ($250,000.00).

The agency says the unwanted cargo was imported from the USA.

NAFDAC head of ports inspection directorate in Port Harcourt, a deputy director, Musa Umar, said that the product was first examined by NAFDAC officials at the port in January while 100 percent physical examination was carried out on April 16 where it was discovered that the product had already deteriorated.

He added that the product was re-examined in the presence of the importer, clearing agent and the manufacturer on this month.

According to him, “During the inspection of the consignment, it was discovered that some cartons were soaked and they were evidence of bloated cans and products spilling on to the boxes. Full examination was attempted for all the ten containers but no product with acceptable physical attributes was seen.”
