Over 600 patients turned out in the first two days of a one week free medical intervention programme by a US-based team, Wecare Missions, in Bonny, Rivers State.

The philanthropic healthcare provider based in Indianapolis US began treatment on Monday at a church facility in the ancient town of Bonny. This is their 2013 healthcare intervention programme in Africa which has been going on for years, so far covering over 12000 since 2007.

Wecare Missions, run by a US-based Nigerian professional pharmacologist, Fatima Madus, has huge support for local facilitation from a Port Harcourt-based medical doctor, Awoere Teme of Teme Hospital in the garden city.

At the Saint Stephen’s (Anglican) Cathedral, venue of the free centre, the programme attracted a large number of people as a result of intensive mobilisation and preparations by the church authorities.
