How to encourage technology startups

businessday-icon

With estimated 120 million mobile phone users, 87 per cent mobile penetration by population and 48 million internet users, Nigeria has definitely gone past the ICT take-off stage.

Indeed, what Nigeria’s ICT sector requires is the commit- ted and dedicated mentorship to emerge as a leading player in the ICT world. And that, it is duly receiving from the National In- formation Technology Development Agency (NITDA) under the leadership of Peter Jack, Director General/Chief Executive Officer.

There is no better way to encourage technology startups, innovators and tech savvy minds than giving them the opportunity to showcase their innovations and creations at an event that would attract up to 1500 international technology professionals, business executives, investors and key public sector decision makers from 150 countries.

The GITEX Technology show, which is an annual technology event, started 33 years ago, in 1981. It has gained the admirable reputation of being the second most reputable technology event globally. It is organised by Dubai World Trade Centre and has the status of being the ICT gateway for Middle East, Asia and Africa.

With Nigeria as Official Country Partner, and the dedicated leading involvement of NITDA, GITEX 2014 – October 12 – 16, will serve as a veritable platform for Nigeria to show the world its great ICT potentials and enable its budding ICT innovators to attract fruitful and rewarding global investors’ attention.
