Purechem Manufacturing Limited and building industry professionals, especially engineers, have explained why developers, construction firms and property owners have to protect buildings against water leakages.

According to them, there are gains in preventing leaks in buildings as failure to do so leads to, among other things, cracks and threats to the durability and safety of lives and properties.

Purechem made the explanation in Lagos recently at the unveiling of its new product designed to protect structures from leaks. The product known as ‘TopShield’ which provides complete waterproofing solutions, is Purechem’s latest offering to the built environment.

Rajesh Sarada, managing director of Purechem Manufacturing, disclosed that the product was introduced in 2022 to help mitigate the danger of water leakages in buildings. He said that, as a subsidiary of the Enpee Group, the company was a market leader in the construction chemical sector in Nigeria and West Africa.

The advantages of Topshield on structures at the foundation were highlighted, just as flooring, roofing and plastering levels were shown. A pictorial presentation by the producers exposed the danger and embarrassment a leaking roof could cause to structures and people.

Ammit Pawaar, Head of Sales & Marketing, said that three major disadvantages come with leaking structures, whether at the roof, wall or basement levels which, over time, leads to Corrosion, Cracks and spalling of concretes, thereby affecting the durability of the structure.

He added that the beauty of structures could be destroyed, as leaking walls, roofs, bathrooms, and balconies get dampened and become eyesores of sorts. Pawaar said such leakages have health consequences too, as the affected places would harbour health-threatening micro-organisms like algae, fungi, germs, etc.

“It is in a bid to guard against these problems that we came up with ‘Top Shield which offers complete water-proofing products and solutions for the built environments. The product offers TS 101 Integral Waterproofing Powder for Concrete & Plaster TS 202 Integral Water-proofing Liquid for Concrete and Plaster,” he said.

According to him, TS 303–SBR Latex is for Water-proofing and Repairs while TS 605 and TS 615 are other high-performance waterproof coatings for Bathrooms, Balconies, Swimming pools, Water Tanks and Roofs.

He said there was also the Top Fix brand which offers TopFix Super, a crack-resistant waterproof tile adhesive for fixing tiles in new construction. He added that TopFix Super can also be used to fix new tiles on the existing tiles without breaking the old tiles thereby saving lots of time and money.

“Top Grout, which is a high-performance water-proof tile joint filler, is available in 14 shades to match the colour of the tile in your homes,” he said.

The event which attracted personalities and experts from the construction and business community also featured an award nite for outstanding stakeholders.

Omolola Adetona, CEO, of Engineering Resource Academy, commended the company for its continued collaboration with the Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE) and other relevant bodies for the manufacturing of tested quality chemicals and adhesive products for the construction industry.

Adetona noted that it was necessary for all hands to be on deck to ensure that only professionally certified materials and products were used in the construction sector to check rising cases of building collapse across Nigeria.

Okoro Chukwu Ebuka, a distributor and award recipient who went home with a 55″TV set, lauded the company for the ‘Topshield’ initiative, adding that Purechem remains a customer-friendly firm whose products and services are next to none. “l feel happy over this event and it is a memorable day for me and our company,” he said.
