The People’s Democratic Party PDP, loyal to Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory FCT, has kicked off its national convention at the Velodrome of the national stadium on Sunday.

The convention which started at exactly 6 pm is expected to see the return of Abdulrahman Mohammed as the new National Chairman of the party.

Mohammed who is currently the Chairman of the PDP Caretaker Committee, hails from the North Central, an indication that the party will retain the zoning of the Presidency to the South.

Also expected to return is Samuel Anyanwu who will continue as the party’s National Secretary.

BusinessDay gathered that Okechukwu Osuoha, former deputy national legal adviser will return as the Auditor of the party, Umar Bature will retain his position as the party’s National Organising Secretary, Haruna Mohammed will replace Debo Ologunagba, as the new National Publicity Secretary of the party

BusinessDay also gathered that over 2500 delegates from across the 36 states of the country were mobilised for the convention.

Recall that the Abdulrahman Mohammed led National Caretaker Committee was given the recognition to run the party’s affairs, by the Mohammed Danjuma led Federal Court of Appeal panel that delivered judgement on the appeal files by the Tanimu Turaki led PDP faction.

The Committee moved in to organise the convention following the annualment of the November 15 and 16 Ibadan convention that brought in the Turaki led group.
