Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has emerged the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Imo West Senatorial District after defeating former governor, Rochas Okorocha, in the party’s senatorial primary election on Monday.

the chairman and returning officer of the 2026 Imo APC National Assembly Primary Election Committee, announced the result at the Orlu Local Government headquarters.
Kayoda said Uzodimma polled 230,464 votes to defeat Okorocha, who secured 1,098 votes in the exercise conducted across the 12 local government areas of the senatorial district.

“I hereby formally declare that His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodimma, having satisfied all the requirements of the party constitution, guidelines and relevant laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and having scored the highest number of valid votes cast, is hereby declared the winner of the APC Imo West Senatorial District primary election,” he stated.
In the Imo North Senatorial District primary, Kayoda also declared Senator Patrick Ndubueze winner after polling 108,862 votes to defeat Senator Ifeanyi Ararume, who garnered 79 votes.
Speaking after the exercise, Uzodimma, chairman of the Progressives Governors’ Forum (PGF) expressed confidence in the APC’s chances in the 2027 general elections, describing the primary as peaceful, transparent and widely accepted by party members across the state.
“You can see how committed party members are and the loyalty they have shown since the commencement of the primaries,” he said.
The governor added that the APC had continued to strengthen its grassroots support base across Imo State.
