Adeleke, accord party endorse Tinubu for 2027, seek peaceful Osun governorship poll

With political positioning for the 2027 general election gathering momentum, Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State and the national leadership of the Accord Party have endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term, saying continuity is needed to complete major infrastructure projects across the country, while calling for a peaceful and credible governorship election in Osun State.

 

The endorsement was announced after a meeting between Adeleke and the party’s national executives on Saturday night in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, according to a statement issued by Pelumi Olajengbesi, spokesperson for the governor’s re-election campaign.

 

The party’s leadership said allowing the Tinubu administration to complete ongoing strategic projects would boost economic development, improve connectivity and deepen national integration.

Among the projects cited were the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and the Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway, both of which the party described as critical investments capable of stimulating commerce, attracting investment and opening up underserved regions of the country.

 

“The administration should be allowed to complete these transformational infrastructure projects,” the statement said, adding that continuity in governance would enable the country to maximise the economic benefits of the ongoing investments.

The meeting also reviewed preparations for the forthcoming Osun State governorship election, with the Accord Party expressing concern over the conduct of the poll.

The party warned against political violence, voter intimidation, electoral manipulation and the use of security agencies to harass or intimidate its members and supporters before, during and after the election.

It urged all political actors to conduct their campaigns peacefully and called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to remain neutral and ensure a free, fair and credible electoral process.

According to the party, safeguarding the integrity of the election is essential to strengthening Nigeria’s democracy and maintaining public confidence in the country’s electoral system.

The meeting brought together the Accord Party’s national leadership and state chairmen from across the federation, reflecting what the party described as a united position on national political developments and its preparations for future elections.

Those in attendance included the National Chairman, Maxwell Mgbudem; Deputy National Chairman, Maryam Sale; National Secretary, Ajaja Abiola Adebukola; National Treasurer, Abdulazeez Oyeniyi Salaudeen; National Organising Secretary, Ibe Thankgod; and National Publicity Secretary, Omorogbe Joseph.

Also present were the party’s state chairmen from across the country.

The endorsement comes as political parties intensify consultations and alliance-building ahead of the 2027 general election, with parties beginning to outline their priorities and electoral strategies well ahead of the polls.
