Eleazer Ikonne, a professor and governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State, in the forthcoming 2023 general elections, has said trade and investment would be major pillars of his administration if elected into office.
Ikonne made the pledge while hosting Abia traders, under the auspices of Abia State Markets Amalgamated Traders Association, (ASMATA), on a solidarity visit to his Umuahia residence.
The traders had earlier announced the endorsement of PDP’s Ikonne, as their sole candidate for the 2023 governorship election in the State.
Ikonne thanked the traders for identifying with him and his aspiration, promising to provide quality leadership that would take the state to a higher level.
He commended Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for laying a solid foundation for traders and assured that he would build on the governor’s efforts, especially in the area of promotion of made-in-Aba products.

He stated that he has developed a master plan to expand markets in the state, adding that he has trade as a major pillar of his manifesto and would create more atmosphere for trade to thrive in the state.
Lucky Akubueze, president, ASMATA, who led the delegation, assured Ikonne that they would ensure that he emerges victorious and sworn in as governor in 2023.
He said that they have assessed the profiles of those jostling for the governorship position in the State and found Ikonne, as the most credible candidate, adding that he has contributed greatly to the human capital development of Abia people.
They disclosed that PVC registrations are ongoing in all the markets in the state and would soon embark on the “Operation Show Your PVC” campaign for all traders.
John Okiyi-Kalu, the state commissioner for trade and investment, assured the governorship candidate that every trader is an automatic member of the Ikonne Market Traders Campaign team.
