Rep seeks FG’s timely intervention on 12 Nigerians on death row in Indonesia

Abike Dabiri-Erewa, chairman, House Committee on Diaspora, on Thursday, stressed the need for the Federal Government to take deliberate action towards averting the execution of some Nigerians on death row in Indonesia.
Dabiri-Erewa gave the charge while reacting to the execution of two Nigerians, Solomon Okafor and Daniels Enemuo, who were executed by firing squad on Sunday, January 18, 2015.

She told BusinessDay that the House will intervene in the issue of the execution of Nigerians on death row in Indonesia as soon as the House resumes from the recess.

The lawmaker, who stressed the need for pro¬active steps by Federal Government, expressed disgust over the decision of the Indonesian authorities despite persistent plea by the Federal Government and the National Assembly.
She lamented that “the executions took place against the backdrop of the excellent relations that subsist between Nigeria and Indonesia, and more Nigerians are still on death row in Indonesia and may also be executed if the Federal Government does not take a more proactive and decisive measure with the Indonesian government.”
