The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has rejected Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly election results released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), saying that the election was rigged to favour the Ruling All Progressive Congress (APC). The election, it said, was a rape of democracy.

INEC Wednesday morning announced incumbent Muhammadu Buhari of the APC as the winner of the presidential election, defeating Atiku Abubakar, the candidate of the main opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

But reacting to the conduct of the election in an Interview with BusinessDay,   Lagos State Coordinator of CUPP, Tunde Daramola, faulted the result released by INEC noting that the election did not reflect the will of Nigerians across the country.

Daramola wondered why INEC would declare results in constituencies were voters were denied opportunity to vote, while card readers malfunctioned.

The CUPP coordinator said that the result for PDP declared by INEC in Lagos state was manipulated to favour the APC.

According to him” I am surprised and can’t believe that out of about six million plus registered voters in Lagos State less than 20 percent of the voters turned out to vote. Across the state the turnout was twice that of 2015 election.

“But this result released is not a true reflection of the will of Nigerians, something is fishy with this result you can see that the PDP has been rigged out”.

“I am at a loss to what would happen to several people whose votes were cancelled and where voting did not take place. You saw what happened in Okota and other areas in Lagos State. Why did these people collect PVCs and register to vote,”Daramola questioned.
