Obasanjo’s exit: Good riddance to bad rubbish, say Babatope, Oladipo

Ebenezer Babatope, a member of the PDP board of trustees and former transport minister, has described the exit of former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as good riddance to bad rubbish. To him, with Obasanjo’s expulsion from the party, a ‘huge yoke’ has been lifted from the ruling party. Describing the news as a welcome development, Babatope stressed that this will have no negative effect on the fortunes of the party in next month’s general elections. He stated that the PDP had been lenient on the former president all this period despite his fierce criticism of the Jonathan administration.

His words: “I congratulate the PDP for being patient in dealing with former President Obasanjo’s offensive against the party without embarking on wild and unproductive conclusions. “Though Obasanjo is a hard fighter, his exit will have no effect of any kind on the PDP. The PDP will by God’s grace win the March elections”. Also speaking, Tunde Adeniran, the deputy director general, PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation, re-echoed Babatope’s sentiment, pointing out that Obasanjo was at liberty to leave the party when- ever he likes, adding that he won’t be missed. Several calls put to the national secretary of the party, Wale Oladipo, proved abortive as he declined telephone calls, neither did he respond to text messages sent to him.
