The installation of Lateefat Oyeyemi Kolapo, the publisher of The Point Newspaper, as the new Iyalode Musulumi of Egbaland, has elicited congratulatory messages from prominent figures across Nigeria.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo; Ibikunle Amosun, the former governor of Ogun; and Pastor Tunde Bakare of the Citadel Global Community Church were among those who commended Kolapo for her strength of character and leadership virtues.

The installation ceremony took place at the Central Mosque, Kobiti, Abeokuta, on Saturday.

Olusegun Aganga, former minister of industry, trade, and investment, and Chris Isiguzo, president of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, also lauded Kolapo’s contributions to the community.

Governors Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State and Yahaya Bello of Kogi State sent their congratulations, acknowledging Kolapo’s unwavering commitment and invaluable contributions to society.

Bello emphasised that the installation demonstrated Egbaland’s adherence to a longstanding culture of rewarding excellence and brilliance.

In his congratulatory remarks, Obasanjo described Kolapo as “a great pride of Egbaland, a devout Muslim, and a veteran journalist,” whose installation reflects her outstanding leadership qualities.

Amosun, on his part, endorsed the choice, urging Kolapo to further advance Islam in Egbaland and Ogun State.

Bakare expressed his congratulations, noting that Kolapo’s nomination was well-deserved. He highlighted her nomination as “no small feat” and extended wishes for long life and divine guidance in her new role.

“I am not surprised that you were nominated. From what I know about you, this is an honour very well deserved.

“I wish you long life and God’s guidance as you take up the responsibility,” he said.

Isiguzo recognised Kolapo’s professionalism in journalism and media consultancy, celebrating her achievements and impact as the publisher of The Point Newspaper. He encouraged her to continue her exemplary service in advancing Islam in Egbaland and Ogun State.

Abiodun, represented by his deputy chief of staff, Oluwatoyin Taiwo, expressed confidence in Kolapo’s capabilities. He emphasised that her wealth of experience and personal attributes, including courage, philanthropy, tenacity, and focus, would equip her to discharge the duties of the new role effectively.

He said: “The fact that you have been found worthy of this significant position among the Egba Muslim community should be regarded as an endorsement of your strength of character and sterling leadership qualities.

“The Egba Muslim community is sure to benefit from your invaluable contributions and unwavering commitment to service on this higher pedestal.”
