A growing number of former stakeholders and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano, Jigawa and Katsina States have defected to the Accord Party and declared support for the presidential aspiration of Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The defectors, who announced their decision during separate mobilisation meetings across the three North-West states, said they were abandoning the APC due to dissatisfaction with the current state of governance, worsening economic hardship, insecurity and what they described as a widening gap between government and ordinary citizens.
They pledged to mobilise support for Hashim’s candidacy, insisting that Nigeria requires a new political direction capable of addressing the nation’s economic and security challenges.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting in Kano, former APC stakeholder, Goje Bashir, who defected alongside hundreds of supporters, said many APC members had become disillusioned with the current administration.
“I was an APC member, but President Tinubu has failed Nigeria. I am now openly declaring support for Dr Gbenga Hashim of the Accord Party,” Bashir said.

He described Hashim as a unifying figure capable of offering Nigerians a credible alternative leadership platform.
“The people of Kano and the entire North will queue behind him in 2027,” he added.
Also speaking, former APC chieftain Hajia Rabi Fagge said a political realignment was already taking shape across northern Nigeria as citizens seek accountable leadership and national renewal.
“Northern Nigeria will deliver victory for Gbenga Hashim in 2027 to rescue ordinary Nigerians,” she stated.
In Jigawa and Katsina states, stakeholders echoed similar sentiments, saying Nigerians were increasingly looking for leaders who could restore security, revive the economy and improve the welfare of citizens.
Hashim Progressive Movement Women Leader, Ambassador Aisha Ibrahim, said the North-West was preparing for another major political shift after playing a significant role in the 2023 elections.
“We promised to deliver Tinubu in 2023, and we did. We are now promising to deliver Gbenga Hashim in 2027, and by the grace of God, we will deliver,” she said.
Jigawa State Coordinator, Hon. Abdulrasheed Ali, who coordinated mobilisation efforts across the state’s 27 local government areas, described Hashim as a leader of integrity and credibility.
“Nigeria needs truthful leaders, and Gbenga Hashim represents that vision,” he said.
In Katsina State, Coordinator Muhammad Abdullahi expressed confidence in Hashim’s growing popularity among voters seeking an alternative political platform.
He said public sentiment had shifted significantly due to prevailing economic realities and hardship faced by many Nigerians.
“When we say ‘Sai Hashim,’ the response will be ‘Sabo Nigeria’ — a New Nigeria,” he declared.

Representatives of Hashim, led by Abdulrazaq Hamzat and accompanied by the FCT Coordinator of the Gbenga Hashim Solidarity Movement, Mallam Abubakar Kana, described the endorsements as evidence of growing cross-party support for the Accord Party’s message of democratic renewal, accountability and inclusive governance.
They said the movement remained open to Nigerians across political divides and would continue expanding grassroots structures nationwide ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to them, Hashim’s agenda focuses on national rebuilding, economic recovery, improved security, job creation and better welfare for citizens.
Political observers note that the North-West remains one of Nigeria’s most influential voting blocs, making any significant political realignment in the region potentially important to the outcome of future national elections.
Observers also point to Hashim’s historical connection to the region through his late father, who hailed from Yauri in Kebbi State and was regarded as an influential Northern prince, a factor supporters believe could further strengthen his appeal across parts of the North-West.
