UPDATED: Gbadamosi wins PDP Lagos East senatorial ticket

Babatunde Gbadamosi, governorship candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) in the 2019 election, has emerged as the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the Lagos East senatorial bye-election slated for October 31.

Gbadamosi emerged victorious in the primary election organised by the Lagos State chapter of the PDP to pick the party’s candidate for the Lagos East senatorial bye-election.

He won the ticket after scoring 529 votes to defeat three other candidates, Babatunde Abiodun Oyefusi, the party’s candidate for the same position in the 2019 election, Saidat Odofin Fafowora and Olanrewaju Moshood Babatunde.

The voting exercise, which was held at the local party secretariat at Pedro in Somolu area of the state, witnessed party delegates from five local council areas in the state, including Somolu, Kosofe, Ibeju-Lekki, Ikorodu and Epe.

Announcing the result of the primary election, chairman of the electoral committee, Ndidi Okereke, applauded the conduct of the aspirants and party officials, saying that it was plus for Lagos PDP.

The seat became vacant following the death of Senator Sikiru Bayo Osinusi, who died on June 15. He was from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

BusinessDay had earlier reported that a total of 110 delegates were accredited in Somolu, 95 in Kosofe and 88 in Ibeju-Lekki.
