Embattled Senator Ishaku Elisha Abbo, who represents Adamawa North Senatorial District in the 10th National Assembly, publicly apologised to Senate President Godswill Akpabio on Wednesday night for previously accusing him of involvement in his October 16, 2023, Court of Appeal dismissal from the Senate.
The 47-year-old senator, affiliated with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), explained that a recent private conversation with Akpabio revealed the Senate President’s lack of involvement in his situation, leading to the decision to issue a public apology.
Speaking on the Arise Television News Night programme, Abbo said, “I have to say this with all sense of humility and responsibility that the press release we rendered yesterday is premature and based on the available information in our disposition yesterday.
“But as for today we have a lot…yesterday night I had a discussion with the Senate President, brother and my colleague, distinguished Senator Godswill Akpabio and I am convinced that he is not involved.”

Abbo affirmed Akpabio’s innocence, emphasising that the Senate President was willing to confirm his non-involvement by taking an oath on his mother’s grave.
“This is because we met yesterday and let me go by his words, he said Senator Abbo, ‘I swear by my mother’s grave, I am not involved in this. I don’t even know that you are in court.’, ” he said.
The Adamawa-born politician underscored that Akpabio’s demonstration of innocence showcased sincerity, a quality that further deepened his bond with Akpabio.

He said, “For a number three citizen to come up to tell me that he has sworn to his mother’s grave, a woman that he loves so much and who brought him up after he lost his father at the age of six, I don’t see the reason why he would lie.”
Abbo’s resolute effort to uncover the true reasons behind the court judgment led to his camp obtaining crucial information that led to his removal from the Senate.
He said, “And today the additional intelligence trickled in, we have abundant information, and this morning after our discussion with the Senate President and I apologize to him, it is only honourable and virtuous that when something is wrong, you have to clear his name and say ‘yes, we acted on error because of the available information in our disposal yesterday.
“Mr President, my distinguished friend and Senator I want to say that you are not involved. I believe every word you say because I know how you value your mother.”
