Barau Ibrahim Jibrin, the deputy president of the Senate, has emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Kano North Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections, using the occasion to rally support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Abba Kabir Yusuf.

The affirmation exercise, held at the APC headquarters in Bichi Local Government Area of Kano State, drew thousands of party supporters from the 13 local government areas of the senatorial district, alongside officials of the APC national leadership and representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Shehu Isa Direba, Chairman of the APC Electoral Committee for the Kano North Senatorial Primary Election, formally presented Senator Barau for affirmation, prompting a loud endorsement from party members at the venue.

The exercise was further ratified by the Chairman of the APC National Assembly Primary Elections Committee for Kano State, Musa Yahaya, who also sought the approval of delegates and party faithful for Barau’s candidacy.

Speaking after monitoring the exercise, INEC team leader Abdulrahman Haruna commended the peaceful conduct of the process, describing it as orderly.

In a move seen as a major show of party unity in Kano, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, represented by Murtala Sule Garo, Deputy Governor, expressed confidence that APC candidates would secure victory across the state in 2027.

According to him, Kano North remained a stronghold of the APC, adding that the party was united ahead of the polls.
“We are one family in APC. Insha Allah, Senator Barau will secure his seat, while President Tinubu and all our candidates will emerge victorious,” he said.

Responding after his affirmation,Barau thanked party members for their support and pledged continued representation of the district at the National Assembly.

He also praised President Tinubu’s administration, insisting that the President remained committed to the development of Northern Nigeria.

Barau equally commended Governor Yusuf for what he described as efforts to reposition Kano State through development initiatives.

The senator urged Kano residents to vote massively for APC candidates at all levels in the 2027 elections, saying sustained support for the ruling party would guarantee continued federal and state development projects.

The APC affirmation exercise in Kano North comes amid growing political mobilisation across the country as parties intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections.
