Since Buni, the present Governor of Yobe State resigned his position as the National Secretary of APC, to seek the party’s Governorship ticket late 2018, the party has been without a substantive National Secretary while the Deputy National Secretary, Victor Giadom was acting in that capacity.
Though Bulama was first appointed as APC National Secretary but this was vehemently opposed by a section of party leadership, led by the National Vice Chairman from the North-East, Mustapha Salihu.
However, he was finally sworn in at the party’s National Secretariat, Abuja with the Governors of Borno, Babagana Zulum and Gombe, Mohammed Inuwa, and other party leaders in attendance.
Performing the inauguration, APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole disclosed that:”the party had a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari, Governor of Yobe and also consulted other stakeholders of the party where they came to a conclusion that Arc Waziri Bulama should be admitted as the acting National Secretary of the party pending the ratification by the National Convention.”
Addressing journalists shortly after the inauguration, Gombe State Governor, Mohammed Inuwa expressed confidence in the ability of the new National Secretary to add value to the leadership of APC and actualize the party’s mandate.
Inuwa said: “I am very happy that it ended this way. It took sometime for us to have this replacement but what is more important is that at the end of the day we are able to come to a resolution and the new National Secretary has been sworn in today.
“We hope he will work with other leaders and consolidate on the gains of the party. I know Architect Buluma in the last 40 years. I Know that he is a person of impeccable character, a person that you can vouch for and is very hardworking. He knows what to do. In fact, he has already started doing that trying to work and carry everybody around so that APC should deliver on its mandate and that is what he going to do.”
In his acceptance speech, Bulama promised to work along with other party officials to move the party forward and lauded the contributions of the founding fathers of the APC and assured further that he will do everything possible to bring about the needed unity in the APC.
He said, “I want to assure you Mr. Chairman and all pour party leaders that I will work with my colleagues to ensure that the party works harmoniously as a party and to consolidate on the success of the party.”
