Emerging signs of internal discord appear to be surfacing within the Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), following the circulation of a controversial statement purportedly withdrawing support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second-term bid.

The party, however, has swiftly moved to contain the situation, dismissing the claim as the handiwork of a “faceless group” and reaffirming its allegiance to the president.

In a statement issued on Friday, the APC State Publicity Secretary, Auwalu Abdullahi, described the alleged withdrawal—credited to a group identified as the “Arewa APC Forum, Kano State Chapter”—as false, misleading, and aimed at creating disunity within party ranks.

According to him, the group is unknown to the party’s official structure and lacks any constitutional backing to speak on behalf of members in the state.

“The APC in Kano is aware of attempts by certain individuals and faceless groups to create confusion and disunity within the party,” the statement said, adding that no recognized organ of the party had taken such a position.

Despite the controversy, the party leadership under Umar Haruna Doguwa reiterated its unwavering support for President Tinubu, expressing confidence in his administration’s direction on governance, economic reforms, and national development.

The statement urged party faithful and the public to disregard the purported withdrawal, describing it as a calculated attempt by mischief-makers to sow tension within the ruling party.

It further stressed that the Kano APC remains united and committed to the president’s re-election ambition, insisting that the individual behind the disputed statement is neither identifiable nor a stakeholder within the party at any level.

The development, however, highlights underlying tensions that analysts say could test party cohesion ahead of future political contests.
