APC Crises: Buhari in make-or-mar meeting with APC Governors

Muhammadu Buhari

As the crises rocking the All Progressive Congress APC deepens, President Muhammadu Buhari has scheduled a meeting with Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressive Congress APC.

The make or mare meeting is coming ahead of uncertainties trailing the proposed National Working Committee NWC meeting of the party scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday.

Already, the party is thorn along several contending forces, with 2023 in focus.

The embattled National Chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomhole has approached the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court to vacate the earlier order by the Court asking him to step aside until the Court determines the substantive suit on his suspension by his ward in Edo state.

The order followed an action filed in Abuja last Wednesday by the National Vice Chairman, North East of the ruling APC, Mustapha Salihu, a factional chairman of the APC in Edo State, Anselm Ojezua and others, seeking to remove Oshiomhole from office.

Many legal pundits believe that the order still subsists despite a Kano High Court ruling vacating the order, arguing that courts of coordinate jurisdiction cannot seat on appeal on the same issue, insisting that only Court of Appeal can vacate the order or the Court that issued it.

Some members of National Working Committee (NWC) rejected the ruling and insisted that he remained suspended.

National Leader of the party, Bola Tinubu, had, ahead of today’s meeting written a letter, in which he alleged that the “plotters” of this crisis “launched their attack solely because they perceive the chairman as an obstacle to their 2023 ambitions. People went to court knowing full well the party constitution prohibits such action because these people had not yet exhausted all internal disciplinary procedures”

He has also fingered some unnamed “powerful individuals” as being behind the current crises in the party.

“Those engaged in these manoeuvres see themselves as clever or cunning. They do so because they only understand the mean craft of political intrigue. They have yet to understand the value and long-term utility of democratic governance. Thus, they embark on the strangest of quests. They would rather dismantle and weaken the institutional core of their party just to gain control of that weakened edifice in order to pilfer the party nomination, which they crave. This is more than sad”

Political pundits believe that the outcome President’s meeting with the Governors and those of the Abuja Federal High Court decision will go a long way to determine whether the NWC meeting will hold
