The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has fixed April 14, 2026, for its national convention as part of a nationwide process aimed at renewing the party’s leadership structures.

According to the schedule, polling unit and ward congresses will hold on April 7, 2026, followed by local government area congresses on April 9, 2026 while state congresses are slated for April 11, 2026. The process will culminate in the party’s national convention on April 14, 2926.

The notice stated that the exercise is in line with the party’s constitutional responsibility to renew its leadership structures from the grassroots to the national level.

“The African Democratic Congress (ADC) hereby announces the official schedule of activities for the conduct of the party’s 2026 nationwide congresses and national convention,” the notice read in part.

“This process forms part of the party’s constitutional responsibility to renew its leadership structures across all levels of the organisation, beginning from the polling units and wards through the local government and state levels, and culminating in the national convention,” the notice read.

The party also advised members interested in contesting vacant positions at the ward, local government and state levels to obtain and submit the required nomination or expression of interest forms through the party’s official website.

Rival faction picks April 3-5 for national convention Meanwhile, a faction within the party has announced a separate timetable for the congresses and national convention.

In a statement jointly signed by Nafi’u Bala, the factional National Chairman and Rufus Ikanmi, the Secretary of the Board of Trustees (BoT), the group said elections for party executives at the ward, local government, state and national levels would be conducted through a consensus arrangement.

According to the faction’s timetable, ward congresses will take place on March 19, followed by local government congresses on March 24 and state congresses on March 28, while the election of the NWC members is scheduled to hold between April 3 and 5.

“This decision is taken in accordance with the party’s constitution and the Electoral Act 2026 (as amended), in furtherance of its commitment to promoting unity, cohesion and inclusiveness within the party,” the statement said.
