The faction of the Accord Party led by Christopher Imumolen has denied involvement in last Saturday opposition parties’ summit held in Ibadan, Oyo State, accusing organisers of using its identity without authorisation and warning of imminent legal action.
The party said its name and symbol were unlawfully deployed at the meeting where opposition groups resolved to field a single presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections.
In a statement on Sunday by its National Secretary, Muktar Abdallah, the party described the development as “political impersonation” rather than an oversight, distancing itself from any coalition arrangement involving the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The Ibadan summit, attended by opposition figures including allies of Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde, had produced a communiqué endorsing a unified presidential ticket to challenge President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
Reacting, the Accord Party insisted it neither authorised nor participated in the coalition talks.
“This is not an oversight; it is a misrepresentation. The Accord Party will not be dragged into alliances it neither negotiated nor approved,” the statement read.
