AbdulRazaq endorses Yahaya Seriki as preferred successor in Kwara

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State has formally endorsed Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki as his preferred successor for the 2027 Governorship election.

The endorsement came amid growing political rivalry within the Kwara APC, particularly between the governor’s camp and supporters of Senator Saliu Mustapha, as permutations ahead of the 2027 elections intensify.

In a statement issued on Tuesday after what he described as “extensive consultations with party structures and leadership,” AbdulRazaq said Yahaya Seriki possesses the qualities needed to lead the state.

“I am pleased to endorse Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki (MFR) as my preferred successor under the platform of our party, the APC,” the governor stated.

BusinessDay reports that 16 aspirants had obtained APC expression of interest and nomination forms for the party’s governorship ticket in the state and were duly screened by the party for the primaries slated for May 21, 2026.

AbdulRazaq described Seriki as “young, pro-people, astute and broad-minded,” noting that the businessman and politician has built strong political goodwill and investments across Kwara State.

The governor, however, clarified that the endorsement does not stop other aspirants from contesting the governorship primary scheduled for Thursday, May 21, 2026.

“While this does not in any way preclude all other aspirants from contesting in the primaries, I urge members and leaders to affirm the choice of Seriki as our candidate for cohesion, unity and continuous success of the party,” he added.

AbdulRazaq also stressed that the endorsement should not be interpreted as a rejection of other aspirants.

“The choice of Amb. Yahaya Seriki is neither a disapproval of any of our eminently qualified aspirants nor a whimsical attempt to delegitimise the noble aspirations of our people,” the statement read in part.
