The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) is holding its primaries across the country today, May 29, 2026. This is to ratify Peter Obi as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.

Peter Obi was previously cleared to run as the sole aspirant following a screening by the party in Abuja.

Ahead of the primary, the Obidient Movement publicly appealed to party members to unite and ensure Obi’s successful emergence on the ballot.

The critical operational updates for today’s election exercises include the updated election schedule.

Recalled that the NDC National Working Committee adjusted the election timeline due to logistical and travel disruptions caused by the recent public holidays.

The actual voting and affirmations for all positions are unified into a single day. While the Presidential is an affirmation of Peter Obi, the National Assembly, Governorship and State House of Assembly primaries will be contested.

According to the party’s new guidelines and payment policy, the party approved direct grassroots voting for State House of Assembly candidates to promote transparency.

In an unusual policy shift to accommodate a compressed political timetable, the Nigeria Democratic Congress allowed all screened contestants to participate; however, only the winning aspirants are required to pay nomination fees after today’s results are clear.

Official results will be processed by designated national election teams and formally announced through the NDC National Headquarters. State executives have no mandate to declare winners independently.
