As the battle for the 2027 presidential race gathers momentum, more aspirants have started indicating their interest to unseat incumbent President Bola Tinubu, from the Aso Rock, Presidential Villa.

Gbenga Hashim, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, weekend, rekindled his interest in the 2027 presidential race, calling on Nigerians to join hands to strengthen multi party democracy

The businessman-cum politician, who is often described as a ” physical conservative” and who hails from the Kebbi State, of Nigeria, believes that Nigerians deserve better treatments from their political leaders

Speaking on the ongoing political development, Hashim said he has drawn up strategic program to tackle the challenges facing the country, including hunger, insecurity and disturbing rate of out of school children, adding that he will prioritise education for Nigeria’s teeming youths, by strengthening good governance, across the three tires of government

Born to a Hausa father and a Yoruba mother, Hashim says it is time to deploy his highly successful and sophisticated business acumen to solving Nigeria’s socio economic problems.

Speaking on the current development around the preparations for the 2027 general election, Hashim, berated the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, for the recent reversal of the earlier date announced for the 2027 general election

He called on Joas Amupitan, Chairman of the electoral umpire to ” resign” or face mass action against the commission.

For him, “INEC’s has consistently betrayed lack of capacity to deliver on a free, fair and credible election, especially given the experience of the officials season elections conducted so far”

Hashim political journey began as a student union leader and anti-apartheid activist in the 1980s, when he also suffered political victimisation and detention in the hands of the then Military dictators, for his political activism, including protests against economic policies and military authoritarianism.

After playing such substantive role in Nigeria’s transition to democracy, holding key positions, including Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the early 2000s, he believes he deserves the party’s ticket in 2027

He said he has what it takes rebuild the main opposition party, restore its integrity, give Nigeria quality leadership and provide leadership that supports accountability and good governance.

He is viewed by supporters as a principled and resilient leader committed to democratic reform, economic diversification, and national unity.
