The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Wednesday adopted key reports on the party’s new manifesto and amended constitution, setting the stage for its preparations towards the 2027 general elections.

The decision was taken at a NEC meeting held in Abuja, where members of the party’s second-highest decision-making organ considered and approved submissions from the National Working Committee (NWC).

Formal adoption of policy reports

Addressing journalists after the meeting, Bolaji Abdullahi, National Publicity Secretary of the ADC, said the session was brief but productive, with full attendance by NEC members, including representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

According to Abdullahi, one of the major outcomes of the meeting was the formal adoption of the report of the Policy and Manifesto Committee, as well as that of the Constitutional Review Committee. He explained that both reports, earlier submitted to the NWC, have now been endorsed by the NEC and will be presented at the party’s forthcoming national convention for final ratification.

“The meeting went quite well. It was short and straightforward, but critical decisions were reached. NEC has accepted the reports on policy, manifesto, and constitutional amendments, and these will now proceed to the national convention,” Abdullahi said.

Ratification of convention timetable

Abdullahi also confirmed that the NEC ratified the timetable for the party’s congresses and national convention. Polling unit and ward congresses are scheduled for the 7th of the month, followed by local government congresses on the 9th, and state congresses on the 11th. The national convention is set to be held in Abuja on the 14th.

Clarifying the nature of the convention, he said it would be a non-elective gathering convened primarily to ratify decisions already taken by the NEC and NWC, rather than to elect party officers or candidates. He added that while the congresses at various levels would produce new party officials, the national convention would serve as the final authority to endorse all decisions made by the party’s leadership organs since the last convention.
