2015 budget, polls shift top agenda as Reps reconvene tomorrow

Nigeria’s yawning budget deficit signals more unlawful CBN loans

The House of Representatives is expected to deliberate on the 2015 budget as well as the postponement of the 2015 general elections as they reconvene for plenary tomorrow. Zakari Mohammed, chairman, House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, told BusinessDay on Sunday that the resumption date remains sacrosanct, explaining that the House will deliberate extensively on the circumstances surrounding the postponement of the general elections with the view to hold the Federal Government and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) accountable for the new date.

“Yes, nothing contrary to the resumption date so far. “When we resume, we will be looking at the 2015 budget. We will also be looking at the election postponement and the possibility of holding them to the new date,” Mohammed said. On the possibility of considering of the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB), the House spokesman noted that the ad hoc committee will be expected to perfect the document and lay it before the House.
