“We all need help now”

“We all need help now”

The role of government has never been to plan every detail or dictate every outcome. At its best, government has simply knocked away barriers to opportunity and laid the foundation for a better future. Our people — with all their drive and ingenuity — always end up building the rest. And if we can do that again — if we can continue building that foundation and making those hard decisions on behalf of the next generation — I have no doubt that we will leave our children the America (Nigeria) that we all hope for – Barrack Hussein Obama – Former President of the United States of America.

Neighbours help yourselves:

Nigerians can’t wait for the government to handle everything, according to First Lady Oluremi Tinubu. When hosting the National Executive of the National Council for Women Societies (NCWS) in her office at the State House, Abuja, she said mid-August. Aunty Remi as she is fondly known by Lagosians was the first lady of Lagos State when her husband, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, was elected as executive governor. As first lady, she established the New Era Foundation, dedicated to establishing centres for “all round development of young ones and promote public awareness on environmental health and community service.”

She is a firm believer in investing in Society Human Capital and Her Youth Empowerment and Skill Acquisition Scheme in collaboration with Good Boys and Girls Empowerment Scheme (GBGES) . This initiative has produced 1`172 beneficiaries. About 164 youths were trained in various skills and received start up kits and capital of about N40,000 each. Mrs Tinubu’s credentials in community support is well known appreciated and praised.

In the said meeting with the National Council for Women Society exco she said “We cannot wait for government to do everything. We must lend a helping hand to everyone around us,”. Madam first lady our neighbours cannot help because they too have been impoverished by the policy of the government. Many car owners cannot put their cars on the road because they can’t afford the cost of fuel . The same cost of fuel is central to do many things in our society and has astronomically driven up cost of every other things in our society and the people are in pains.

Mothers please be awake guide our youths aright:

She urged all women to ensure youths are guided to follow the path of good values and morals.

She underscored the need for all women to pursue a way to take the youth out of the clutches of the negative aspects of the social media. The youths in our society today have just one agenda finish school and migrate. This is the new slave trade , they are now forced to migrate because the solid social network that could support them is no more as the centre cannot hold and things have fallen apart. Some migrate to take jobs with unfriendly condition of service.

The job of government is to help the week in the society during crisis situation like ours but when we are all weakened by tough government policies while we are witness, mismanagement in government, vacation allowances not known to the books and corrupt officials walking freely about, we wonder what the genuine intentions of government are.

Conclusion:

The proper role of government is exactly what John Stuart Mill said in the middle of the 19th century in “On Liberty.” The proper role of government is to prevent other people from harming an individual. Government, he said, never has any right to interfere with an individual for that individual’s own good- Milton Friedman

People ,systems and actions (corruption) making citizens day to day existence difficult must be stopped in their tracks or the people would react in a manner not conducive for the health of the polity.
