Voting begins early in Delta

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, began distribution of voting materials early giving room for early voting in Delta State.

At the Warri South INEC office, the Electoral Officer, Mrs Grace Okah told journalists that most of the materials have already left for their various wards as early as 6am.

She said so far distribution of materials have been successful and all materials have left for their various polling units.

She said, “All materials have left for their various polling units except for ward 8 and 9, which are about to leave now.

She however said there was initial delay in moving materials because of security alert they got from the security agencies who told them that the coast was not clear to begin movement of materials.

“Materials would have left to all the polling units earlier than this but for a security alert that we got from security men that it was not safe us to start moving materials,” The Warri South Electoral Officer said.

At the INEC office in Warri South, materials were still leaving as at 8:15am when our correspondent got there.

At Uvwie local government area, accreditation has started at some polling units as at 8:25pm while in some units voting materials were yet arrive.

At Osubi, Okpe local government area, where the Delta State Speaker, Hon Sheriff Oborevwori would be voting, materials arrived early and at 8:51am INEC staff and Ad-hoc staff were seen getting prepared for accreditation at ward 3 unit 8 and 9, unit of the Speaker, Sheriff Oborevwori.

At Abraka, ward 3 Unit 7 accreditation and voting was ongoing as at about 10:02am.
