PDP postpones Edo gubernatorial primary to Tuesday

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the People’s Democratic Party, on Thursday, postponed the Edo state governorship primary election to next Tuesday, June 23, 2020.

The party had earlier slated the governorship primary election for Friday, June 19, and Saturday, June 20, 2020.

The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Kola Ologbondiya made the disclosure at the party’s official twitter handle.

Ologbondiya said the decision to postpone the primary election was predicated on exigencies of party activities.

He urged all governorship aspirants, critical stakeholders, party faithful, and the party’s teeming supporters, particularly in Edo state to take note accordingly.

He added that all activities of the party shall be in accordance with the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC)’s guidelines on COVID -19, as it concerns social/physical distancing at public gatherings.

However, the scheduled official visit of the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki to the state secretariat of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has been postponed to Friday, June 19, 2020.

The party’s secretariat was a beehive of activities as party faithful and supporters of the governor stormed the secretariat to officially welcome the governor to the party.

The reason for the postponement was not however disclosed by any official of the party.
