No rerun date yet for areas with inconclusive polls- INEC

election-4

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said it was still studying reports of elections which were declared inconclusive and had not fixed dates for a rerun.

Election in some constituencies into the Federal House of Representatives seats in Lagos State such as Oshodi/ Isolo, Amuwo-Odofin , Ibeju/lekki, Surulere and Shomolu were declared in conclusive by INEC.

Election in the constituencies were poorly conducted and marred by violence and failure of card readers which left several eligible voters disenfranchised.

However, speaking in an interview with BusinessDay Thursday, Femi Akinbiyi, Public Relation Officer, (PRO) of INEC in Lagos State, said the commission was still studying the report of its electoral officers and would soon make a decision on its next line of action.

“We are still studying the report of our officer on ground, we would take a stand soon on what to do, we would let you know”, Akinbiyi said

However, the main opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state has faulted INEC’s reasons for declaring election in the constituencies inconclusive stressing that it candidates won the polls.

PDP chairman in Lagos State, Adegbola Dominic, berated INEC for conducting what he described as a shambolic election in the state.

“You went round Lagos and saw the way the election was conducted, it’s shameful, those inconclusive constituencies are our strong hold, our candidates won in those places they should declare them winners,” Adegbola said.
