INEC to conduct supplementary elections in 13 states Sat, Rivers polls in April

Top party chiefs quietly conceding a presidential election run-off now most likely

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will conduct supplementary elections in 13 states on Saturday and conclude the hitherto suspended polls in Rivers State in April.
Festus Okoye, INEC national commissioner and chairman, Voter Education and Publicity Committee, said this on Thursday at a press conference in Abuja.

Okoye said supplementary governorship election will be conducted in six states out of the 13 states, namely, Adamawa, Bauchi, Benue, Kano, Plateau and Sokoto.

He said collation and announcement of results of the suspended Rivers polls will resume April 5, conduct of supplementary elections in the state where necessary is scheduled April 13-15, while presentation of certificate of return to the governor and elected members of the state House of Assembly will be done April 19.

Okoye also disclosed that the Commission has taken urgent steps to vacate the interim injunction restraining it from collating the governorship election result in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area of Bauchi State so as to complete the process, saying supplementary elections will, however, hold in 15 local government areas of the state.
