I don’t want to rely on rumour – Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday said he will not rely on the rumour mills especially those claiming that he has won last Saturday’s Presidential election, declaring that he will not be moved by such rumours.

The President stated this on arrival at the Presidential wing of Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja on Monday, from his home town, Daura in Katsina State, where he had gone to cast his vote.

Inside sources at the Presidential Villa, however informed Businessday that the President had expressed his displeasure over his defeat on Saturday by his main rival and Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP Atiku Abubakar.

The President, while fielding questions from State House Correspondents on his assessment of the results rolling in from across the country, he declared that he will not depend on the rumour mills, but will rather wait until the Independent National Electoral Commission makes it’s announcements

“Well, I don’t want to depend on rumours, but we will rather wait for INEC to announce the results.

This reaction is coming against the backdrop of several claims and counter claims to victory by the two major parties- the All Progressive Congress APC and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

The President also cautioned Nigerians against believing the rumour mills, but wait for INEC to publish all the results

Speaking on his message to Nigerians as they await the release of results?

The President reiterated that the elections had been adjudged peaceful, adding that his administration has fulfilled its promise to give level playing fields Nigerians to elect whoever they wanted

“Well l hope that Nigerians will appreciate that it was this government which made sure that they were allowed in security and peace to cast their votes for whichever party and candidates they wanted.

The President arrived Abuja at about 11.30am, was however driven straight to his official residence at the Presidential Villa.

Businessday check however revealed that the Presidential Villa was empty as most workers were yet to resumed work after traveling to vote in the Saturday’s Presidential election
