Rivers APC: Court dashes hope

The hope of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to field candidates for the 2019 general election was dashed on Tuesday as the Supreme Court struck out an appeal by the party challenging the jurisdiction of the trial court to entertain the suit.

The court in a ruling delivered on the contentious issue that emanated from the congresses and primary elections of the party in Rivers, held that the appeal of the APC was filed out of time and thus status barred.

The court sustained the objection raised by Ibrahim Umar and 22 other aggrieved members of All Progressives Congress (APC), challenging  the jurisdiction on grounds that it was filed out of time.

In a ruling on the preliminary objection, Justice Aliyu Sanusi  said there was substance in the objection raised by the respondents and consequently struck out the appeal.
