Edo poll: Shaibu, Obaseki’s deputy, loses LG to APC

Edo deputy governor and running mate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the Saturday, September 19, 2020 governorship election in the state, Philip Shaibu, lost the election in his Etsako West Local Government Area to the All Progressives Congress (APC), according to the official results declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday.

PDP polled 17,959 votes in Etsako West LGA, while APC polled 26,140 votes. This is also the home LGA of Adams Oshiomhole, a former governor of Edo State and a former national chairman of APC.

However, Godwin Obaseki, the state governor and PDP governorship candidate, won comfortably in his Oredo LGA, where the PDP polled 43,498 against APC’s 18,365 votes.

Obaseki also won in his polling unit 19, where he scored 184 votes against Ize-lyamu’s 62 votes.

Overall results so far announced in 13 LGAs show that the PDP candidate is leading his closest rival, Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the APC, with over 80,000 votes.
