2019 Election: Rise and defend democracy, South-West PDP urges Nigerians

INEC-election

With just two days left to Saturday’s National Assembly and presidential elections, National Vice Chairman (South-West) of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Eddy Olafeso, has urged Nigerians to rise and defend their votes in the election.

Olafeso stated this Wednesday in an interview with BusinessDay, warning that any attempt by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to derail the wish of Nigerians would be resisted.

He stressed that the poor attendance at President Muhammadu Buhari’s campaign rally in some states was an indication that Nigerians were tired of his administration and its negative policies.

“The price of freedom is in the hand of the people. We would rely on the vigilance of Nigerians people to check that Saturdays’ election is free and fair. We know that Nigerians would expose those that are involved in rigging and we are waiting for them,” he said.

“Look across the country. The APC is not campaigning and in case, where they are holding rallies they are not mentioning their achievements because they know they have done nothing,” Olafeso added.

Olafeso expressed confidence that the PDP would overwhelmingly win Saturday’s presidential election across the country.

Publicity Secretary of pan-Yoruba of Cultural group, Yinka Odumakin, has stated that Nigerians would resist attempt to manipulate Saturday’s election.

“Am appealing to the political parties that they should allow the will of Nigerians prevail. Any attempt to subvert the will of Nigerians would be resisted,” Odumakin said.

Odumakin stated this in a interview with BusinessDay, Wednesday, stressing that Nigerians were desirous of change, lamenting that poverty in the country had become unbearable.

“The suffering in the land is too much. People are desirous of change and you can see that in the streets,” Odumakin added.

Incumbent President Muhammdu Buhari of the APC is seeking re-election in Saturday’s election, which has 71 other presidential candidates, according to INEC.

However, Buhari’s main rival, former Vice-president Atiku Abubakar, is the candidate of the PDP. He has promised to revamp the economy, privatise underperforming public corporations, while creating jobs.

President Buhari whose campaign theme is ‘Next Level’ has however, promised an upgrade in social infrastructures and to sustain the administration’s current war on corruption.
