Yusuf presents N549bn as Kano fiscal estimates for 2025

…State’s education vote surpasses UNESCO standards by 5%

Governor Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has proposed a total sum of N549 billion as fiscal estimates for 2025 fiscal year, voting a 31% of the total budget to education sector of the State, which is 5% more than UNESCO’s standards on annual allocation to the sector.

Presenting Kano State Appropriation Bill tagged, “Budget of Hope, Human Capital, and Economic Development”, before the Kano State House of Assembly on Friday in Kano, Governor Yusuf said N313 billion of the budget, representing 57% was voted for Capital Expenditure, while N236 billion, representing 43% would be used for Recurrent Expenditure.

Giving details of the fiscal estimates, Governor Yusuf noted that most of the capital expenditure in 2025 would be expended on the projects and programmes relating to the social and economic development of the State.

He said N168 billion of the budget, representing 31 %, which would be the largest chunk of the budget, was set aside for the education and N96 billion, representing 17.57%, was projected for governance and institutions.

He noted that the third biggest allocation of N91 billion, representing 16.50% of the budget, was for the health sector, while social infrastructure development would get N71 billion, representing 12.87%.

On the other hand, the security, justice, and emergency sector got N23 billion, representing 4% percent of the budget, and agriculture sector would receive N21 billion, representing 3.83% of the budget.

Water supply and rural development got N27 billion, representing 4.96% of the budget, and women, youths, and people with special needs, would receive N17 billion, representing 3.15% of the budget.

Environment and sanitation got about N16 billion; transportation development received about N13 billion; and manufacturing, commerce, industry, in addition to tourism, would receive 4 billion, representing 1.22% of the budget.
